Throughout the years, we have seen players from Kentucky Fire Juniors (formerly Mockingbird Valley SC) progress to the college ranks. Today, we had the honor of adding another one to the professional ranks as Richard Ballard signed with Louisville City FC becoming the first local player to earn a roster spot with the highly successful USL club.
Ballard began his soccer career at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex as a member of the 4-5 year old recreational program. At only 7 years old, he began training with the U9 Mockingbird Valley SC team and he never looked back. A member of the three-time State Cup Champion 94 Premier team, Ballard was also a highly successful competitor at duPont Manual High School earning first-team all-state and all-region recognition.
After high school, Ballard moved on to Indiana University and was a member of their 2012 National Championship team seeing minutes in the final game as just a freshman. This past fall, during his final season at IU, Ballard started all 21 matches on his way to earning Second-Team All-Big Ten honors.
Kentucky Fire Juniors and Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex are both proud Youth Partners of Louisville City FC and are anxiously awaiting the start of the upcoming USL season. Ballard and Louisville City FC open their season on March 25th against Saint Louis FC at Slugger Field. Tickets for this match and the full Louisville City FC schedule can be found here.
